My first post on this topic was extremely popular so I’ve decided to gather some more for another post. If you missed the first part, here is the link to the first post. There’s been a lot of good TV adverts on South African TV over the years. Hope this gives people from other countries a little perspective and an idea of what the standard is for creativity and advertising in South Africa. Some of these adverts are really cheesy in my opinion, but who cares? They were cool when they came out back in the day and I’m a sucker for nostalgia (I’ve always been). I hope all of you enjoy these adverts.
“Where Douglas Green?”: Another one of those classic South African adverts from yesteryear. Douglas Green is famous in South Africa and abroad for the wines they produce.
SASOL Springbok World Cup 2007 Advert: This is the advert that was run on SA TV in 2007 to promote the Springbok Rugby Team tour to France for the 2007 Rugby World Cup. SASOL is one of the sponsors of the South African National Rugby team and a major player in the South African Coal and Petroleum industry.
Volkswagen Volksiebus advert, featuring David Kramer: This advert is a true classic. David Kramer is a famous musician in South Africa. His fame peaked in 1980s and he still continues to entertain audiences in South Africa today.
Chicken Licken: A proudly South African Chicken fast food chain. I might be mistaken but this is an attempt to mock KFC (their biggest rival in South Africa).
Castle Lager – South African Sport: Advert promoting the 3 major South African National Sports teams. Featuring the Springboks (Rugby), the Proteas (Cricket) and Bafana Bafana (Soccer).

Yip. I agree that the quality of SA tv commercials is outstandingly high – not merely one of the best in the world but arguably THE BEST! Anyway you seem to know lots about SA tv ads and the theme songs in them.
A few years ago there was this commercial on South African tv (I think it was for a brand of car-polish – I think it is called Rally but I’m not sure). The commercial used to be aired during a certain cricket series which I can’t recall now – I think the brand was a broadcast sponsor for that series but I can’t be sure.
The commercial featured a nice, catchy, “60s sounding” song. I don’t know if the song was made specifically for the commercial or if it was pre-existing. I don’t know the name of the song or artist but I do remember ONE TINY SNIPPET of the lyrics:
THERE’S A NEW BOY IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
I’D LIKE TO MEET HIM IF I COULD
Based on this could you identify the song and the artist. Or was the song made specifically for the commercial?

hi. there was a super sports ad a couple of years ago. it started something like this. “look around what do you see, i see the world smiling back at me………….you’ve got the world in your hands”. can u help me identify this song. i love it very much. thanx

I take it you are the ad expert and really need your help. There is this advert that was running sometime in the middle of this year. I think it was a chicken licken advert that involved what looked a chicken dance. What I am really interested in is the song that featured on the advert, I can recall a bit of the lyrics which went something like “It feels so good…and it feels so nice” Who did that song and what’s it called?
