Gordon Shumway, the last known survivor from the planet Melmac, crashes his alien spaceship into the Tanner family’s suburban garage. The man of the house, Willie, dubs him “ALF”, short for Alien Life Form. After convincing the military that they are not harboring an alien from another planet, the Tanners decide to take him in as a member of the family. This show was one of those shows which was dubbed into Afrikaans in South Africa. I kinda got used to the sound of ALF’s voice in Afrikaans (Yes, freaky I know).
I enjoyed this show when I was little. In my opinion, the whole idea for Third Rock from the Sun came from this show, the only difference being that there is only 1 alien involved in ALF, not 3. Then again, people in the US would argue that this concept could be derived from Mork & Mindy. There were 102 episodes made of ALF. The show also spawned a spinoff, Alf: The Animated Series and a TV movie, Project ALF in 1996.

Tanya: The Afrikaans version of the show is very scarce. You might try contacting the SABC to ask them if they still have this in their archive, thats the only advice I have
