I had the privilege of watching The Watchmen on IMAX this past weekend. For those of you rushing out the watch the newest Comic book movie, be warned, this isn’t your usual Comic book movie.
The film is based on the comic book series by Alan Moore. The story plays off in an alternate 1985. President Nixon has won a third term and the United States is at the brink of Nuclear War with the USSR. The Doomsday Clock is permanently set at 5 minutes to midnight. Superheroes are outlawed. Edward Blake, better known as The Comedian gets murdered. A vigilante named Rorschach starts to investigate the murder but his investigation leads him to a more terrifying conclusion as he uncovers a sinister plot. Watchmen was directed by Zack Snyder who also directed 300 in 2006.
Here’s a list of the main cast:
Malin Akerman – Laurie Jupiter
Billy Crudup – Captain Manhattan / Jon Osterman.
Matthew Goode – Adrian Veidt
Jackie Earle Haley – Rorschach.
Patrick Wilson – Dan Dreiberg
Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Edward Blake / The Comedian
Here are some quotes from Watchmen:
Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley): “An attack on one is an attack on all of us.”
Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley): “Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon. That’s always been the difference between us, Dan.”
Adrian Veidt (Matthew Goode): “It doesn’t take a genius to see the world has problems.”
Edward Blake (Jeffrey Dean Morgan): “No, but it takes a room full of morons to think they’re small enough for them to handle.”
Jon Osterman / Captain Manhattan (Billy Crudup): “The worlds smartest man poses no more threat to me than the worlds smartest cockroach.”
Dan Dreiberg (Patrick Wilson): “What happened to the American Dream?”
Edward Blake (Jeffrey Dean Morgan): “It came true! You’re lookin’ at it…”
Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley): “None of you understand. I’m not locked up in here with you. You’re locked up in here with me.”
I found Watchmen to be a very enjoyable movie. The storyline was not thin, the characters were well rounded off, overall a very well made movie. Yes, it’s filled with an abundance of special effects and action, but it’s a lot more violent and full of gore than your average Superhero movie. If there ever were a Not another Superhero Movie, this would be it.
This is the 2nd Trailer which was released for Watchmen
