False Flag Operations: The Great Fire of Rome

On the 18th of July in 64 AD Rome (then capital of the Roman Empire) was almost consumed by fire. This has become known as “The Great Fire of Rome”. Most historians blame Nero (then Emperor) for causing this blaze. The fire broke out in the merchant area of the city. The fire burned for 6 days and 7 nights. Almost 70 percent of Rome was destroyed. Rumors arose which accused the Emperor of ordering the torching. There was also speculation of him standing at Palatine summit playing his lyre as flames devoured the world around him. These rumors were never confirmed. There are also reports of Nero rushing to Rome from his palace in Antium (Anzio) and running about the city all that first night without his guards directing efforts to quell the blaze. The rumors did not stop and Emperor Nero was looking for a scapegoat. Nero starting spreading the word that a young religious cult, the Christians, had started the Great Fire. The citizens of Rome bought this lie. Peter was crucified (upside down, at his own request) and Paul was beheaded. Hundreds of others were fed to the lions, or smeared with tar and set on fire to become human street lamps. The fire had devastated a vast area of Rome and this is where Nero built his palace (which he had plans for before the Great Fire).

One should not question whether Emperor Nero started the fire or not. His reaction was to blame on the Christians even though there was no evidence of them starting the fire. This is the first documented example of a False Flag operation in history. Wikipedia defines false flag operations as “covert operations conducted by governments, corporations, or other organizations, which are designed to deceive the public in such a way that the operations appear as though they are being carried out by other entities. The name is derived from the military concept of flying false colors; that is, flying the flag of a country other than one’s own. False flag operations are not limited to war and counter-insurgency operations, and have been used in peace-time; for example, during Italy’s strategy of tension.”.

False Flag operations are based on the The Problem, Reaction, Solution Paradigm which is derived from The Hegelian Dialectic:

Problem: The government / corporation or group creates or exploits a problem blaming it on others
Reaction: The people react by asking the government / corporation or group for help willing to give up their rights or willing to do something they would not normally do.
Solution: The government / corporation or group offers the solution which was planned long before the crisis

In my opinion, false flag operations have been used throughout history and are still used today. The Great Fire of Rome is an example of an event that was either exploited or caused for personal gain (in this case). In upcoming posts I will cover more of these examples that have presented themselves throughout history.
