Wolfenstein3 D 300x221 Classic Games: Wolfenstein 3 D

Wolfenstein 3-D was released in 1992. This game is widely regarded as the first ever popularized first person shooter game. Wolfenstein 3-D set a trend for a bunch of new first person shooter PC games. Wolfenstein 3-D was developed by ID Software (Later responsible for games like Doom and Quake). This game was inspired by two games from the 1980s, Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein. The game was released in May 1992 as a PC game for DOS systems. Since then the game has been made available for 3DO, Super NES, Game Boy Advance, Acorn Archimedes, Atari Jaguar, Apple Macintosh, Apple IIGS, Windows Mobile, Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, Nintendo Wii and the iPhone OS. This truly is one of those games from the early 1990s which one could play for hours and hours on end. I wonder if one could find this game for sale in the classifieds somewhere. This game is a true classic and I’m sure that people of my generation still remember this game quite clearly.

In recent years, newer versions of the game have been released by Id software, Return to Castle Wolfenstein in 2001 and Wolfenstein in 2009. Obviously the graphics of these 2 games were much improved (compared to the blocky graphics of Wolfenstein 3-D.
