Robyn Hobson Interview

Robyn Hobson was born in 1987 in Cape Town, South Africa. This local beauty has been in several stage productions, and featured in Bollywood Hits such as Life Partner and No Problem. With a few small, local covers under her belt we can expect great things from this vibrant, young actress. She recently agreed to be interviewed by your’s truly. This is a transcript of the interview with Robyn Hobson.

Since when have you been modelling and acting? I started out in Drama school when I was about 8 or 9. It’s always been a passion. I once proudly told a boyfriend: I’ve wanted to act since I was 8… I haven’t wanted you since I was 8. I sort of fell into modelling about two years ago. I’ve been told actresses make good models :) I enjoy it and I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some exceptionally talented photographers and make -up artists.

Would you consider modelling or acting to be your favorite genre? Definitely acting. It’s where I hope to end up one day . I’ve been inspired by screen legends such as Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson, Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith. I hope to one day leave a definitive mark in cinematic history.

What prompted you to enter the 2010 FHM Model competition ? I thought it would be a great platform for exposure. I think the competition has the potential to offer aspiring models a great start in South Africa and get there names out there. I also thought it would be fun and so far it definitely has been. I hope I get into the Top 10, I don’t want it to end.

What are your ambitions and what do you aim to achieve in life? This is an answer that could happily run into pages . There is a lot I want to experience and even more that I want to achieve. My Mum brought me up to believe I could do anything.. and I happily still subscribe to that belief. I’m ambitious and very driven when it comes to things I am passionate about. I want to see the world. I want to help others. I want to learn another language. I want to learn how to make Sushi. I want to become an established actress and I want to be happy in the process. I want to complete my bucket list :)

What do you do to keep fit and active and in shape? I don’t actually have a gym contract at the moment ( but shoosh don’t tell anyone ;) . I gym in Winter and in Summer I try to get out as much as possible. I like walking, swimming in the sea ( I grew up in Plett) and kicking a ball around for fun.

I understand that you are a student. What are you currently studying for? I just finished up my Business Science degree at UCT. It was a great experience. I sometimes felt it was holding me back from pursuing acting, but now at the end of the journey I’m glad I followed through and finished it.

Do you speak any other languages besides English? I speak Afrikaans, French and German. When I find a spare minute I am going to start learning Hindi. So wish me luck.

What do you do when you’re not modelling, acting or studying? I spend time with my friends and we do all sorts of things. Exploring Cape Town, dancing madly, hiking, watching movies, going to plays, visiting the cutest coffee shops, unconsciously hitting on waiters, going for Sushi and drinking cocktails. I like to try and live life to the full. We only have a short time, so we might as well make it count. Some of them are leaving soon. I have been very lucky to meet amazing people at UCT. I’m going to be sad to see them go. I’m wishing them all the best in the next exciting chapter of their lives.

Are you an expert on pole dancing and do you have a favorite method? No, I am completely and utterly clueless. Oblivion ( wine and pizza bar ) has one… I have never tried it though. I have heard its a brilliant form of exercise though.

What are your thoughts on the South African Modelling and Entertainment Industry ? I think we have so much potential. There is talent around every corner. Tsotsi and District 9 have both focused the worlds attention in our direction. There are all sorts of plans in the works and I think we’re going to make the world sit up and go woah… those South Africans can act. We just need a little bit of faith. The new generation of filmmakers and directors are going to make things happen and they’re going to inspire everyone in the process. I have a lot of faith in where this industry is going. It’s why I’m part of it.

Would you date a guy with a moustache? If his sense of humour was good enough ;) I’m not the worlds biggest fan of moustaches… but maybe for Movember I would consider it…

Running Wolf’s Rant would like to thank Robyn Hobson for honoring us with this interview. We wish her luck with her future ventures in the world of acting and modelling. She is currently competing for FHM’s Model 2010.

Do you have any interviews with hot up and coming male model/actors? I find that there is a slew of new female model/actor interviews and pictorials but not so much the males. It would be nice to even it up a bit.

Kiki: I will consider this. I feature a Daily Babe on this blog. I don’t have a feature for a Daily Hunk (because I’m a guy).
