By now most guys out there (including your’s truly) are sick of all the hype surrounding Twilight: New Moon, the sequel in the Twilight saga (an excuse for a vampire movie in my opinion). It’s time to get psyched up for a real vampire movie. Not one made for teenagers to generate loads of money (even if its based on books which is supposed to be very good).
Daybreakers promises to be one of the best vampire movies since the Blade trilogy. It’s the year 2019. A plague has transformed almost every human into a vampire. Vampires are faced with a dwindling blood supply. The dominant race plots their survival At the same time a researcher works with an underground gang of vampires on a quest to save humankind from extinction. The film is written and directed by twin brothers Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig (who also wrote and directed Undead in 2003 and The Big Picture in 2000). Daybreakers will feature appearances by Willem Dafoe (who also starred in the Spiderman movies and various films), Isabel Lucas (an Australian actress who also starred in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen), Ethan Hawke (famous for his roles in Training Day, Gattaca and various other films) and Sam Neill (famous for his role in the Jurassic Park movies and Event Horizon). This film has potential to be one of the biggest films of early 2010. It’s marked for release in the US (and hopefully South Africa) for January 2010. I’m not a huge fan of the Horror genre in general but I love it when the Horror genre is combined with Science Fiction (films like The Relic and Blade come to mind), it’s always an interesting combination.
The trailer for this film gives off a dark vibe which will probably generate hype amongst fans of true vampire films. This is the trailer for Daybreakers:

Quite interesting – something I can’t take my wife to – lol.
Finally something a bit more original. I think this movie definitely has a Gattaca / I am Legend feel to it, but as opposed to the other more recent Vampire movies, this will prove to be a pleasant addition.
The line up of actors is somewhat impressive and I know I’m going to love Sam Neil (Memoirs of the Invisible Man, Event Horizon) as a bad guy, once again.
Dude, we are watching this on Imax!
Deagra: Yeah dude, I’m thinking we can go watch this on IMAX!
Philip Gibb: Shame man. Make an excuse and go watch it alone anyway
this looks pretty sweet!
though i’m wondering why Phillip Gibb can’t take his wife to this movie?
Lowercase_v: Maybe she doesn’t like vampire movies? Who knows?
ha ha ha
she does not like lots of blood.
Wow, I didn’t know it was releasing in January. Not many movies are set to release January 2010 to my knowledge, most is February.
I can’t wait for this film because of Ethan Hawke but I smell way too much Hollywood blockbuster in it. I’m more of a Gattaca type.
yjc: Thank you for your comment. I agree, I smell a Hollywood blockbuster
