Tom Petty was born in 1950 in the United States. He’s a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist by profession and definately one of my favorite artists out of the 1980s. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers has been an active band since 1976. Current members (besides Tom Petty) include Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair, Scott Thurston and Steve Ferrone. Stan Lynch and Howie Epstein were previous members of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Over the years Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have released 10 Studio Albums: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 1976, You’re Gonna Get It! in 1978, Damn the Torpedoes in 1979, Hard Promises in 1981, Long After Dark in 1982, Southern Accents in 1985, Let Me Up (I’ve Had Enough) in 1987, Into the Great Wide Open in 1991, Echo in 1999 and The Last DJ in 2002. Tom Petty has also released 3 solo albums: Full Moon Fever in 1989, Wildflowers in 2004 and Highway Companion in 2006. Don’t Come Around Here No More was written by Tom Petty and Dave Stewart (of Eurythmics fame). The song was released on the Southern Accents album in 1985. The inspiration for this song was from a romantic encounter between Dave Stewart and Stevie Nicks (of Fleetwood Mac fame). Apparently Stevie Nicks uttered the title words of this song to Joe Walsh (her ex boyfriend) when she told him “Don’t come around here no more”. Dave Stewart is the guy smoking the hookah pipe at the beginning of the song’s video. Tom Petty is portrayed as The Mad Hatter in a twisted Alice in Wonderland world.
