Robert Downey Junior is back in the role of Tony Stark in the sequel to the 2008 movie, Iron Man. The film will also star Gwyneth Paltrow (as Virginia Pepper Potts), Scarlett Johansson (as the Black Widow), Don Cheadle (as James Rhodes), John Slattery (as Howard Stark), Sam Rockwell (as Justin Hammer), Gary Shandling (as Senator Stern) and Mickey Rourke (as Whiplash). Iron Man 2 is marked for release in May 2010. With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, billionaire inventor Tony Stark faces pressure from the US government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the US military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts and James “Rhodey” Rhodes at his side, must now forge new alliances and confront powerful enemies. Iron Man 2 is directed by Jon Favreau (who also directed Iron Man in 2008 and Zathura: A Space Adventure in 2005 and has also starred in a few films over the years, including The Breakup in 2006 and Wimbledon in 2004). Iron Man is based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee (who also co-created Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, The Hulk, Thor, Daredevil and Doctor Strange). The Iron Man character first appeared in 1963 in edition 39 of Tales of Suspense.
I really hope Iron Man 2 is not a bad sequel. Judging by the trailer below it might not be bad at all. The trailer features songs by Aussie rock band AC/DC:
