Pretoria UFO Report

aliens less likely to mak 001 300x180 Pretoria UFO ReportEarlier in this week the popular South African news website News24 reported that some Pretoria residents had been stunned by a UFO in the West of the city. A 67 year old lady contacted the Beeld after she had seen 3 strange bright lights for a 2nd night in a row in the Pretoria night sky. Since I don’t live in that part of the city there’s no way that I can confirm this. Some folks on Twitter have dismissed this as a campaign to promote the sequel to the 2009 film District 9 but I feel that is highly unlikely. I can’t make a judgement call on this though because I’ve not seen it with my own eyes. Maybe I should ask the alien folks nicely if they could pass over my part of the city tonight? Would that be ludicrous? Am I asking to be abducted and anal probed? (No, I’m not – write that down). I will only believe that there a really aliens out there if they show up on my doorstep one day. I believe in experiencing something before I form an opinion about it (however, the Twilight book and film experience is excluded from this for personal reasons).

This is not the first time a UFO sighting in Pretoria has been reported in the South African media. On the 28th of August 1996 SABC news broadcast a report of an UFO sighting with footage that a policeman had taken whilst on duty in the city. This is the video of that report.

To be honest, to me this is not definate proof that we’re not alone. Maybe one day the real prawns will show up and steal our cat food and invent their own version of the diski dance using catfood tins as instruments. Only time will tell whether this will happen or not. Everyone has been crying “Alien” since Roswell (in 1947) but no conclusive proof has been offered for the existence of aliens as of yet. Then again, without Roswell there would be no Star Trek, Star Wars or Stargate films and television shows.

I am by no means a believer in alien life forms, in fact I find most of it quite obsurd. Having said that, I too have witnessed strange lights over Pretoria. Its a few years back now on the Olifantsfontein Rd near OTK / Olivenhoutbosch. It was a sequence of 5 green lights hovering off into the distance. We followed the lights until we lost them behind some trees and by the time the tree line had cleared (5 seconds at most) the lights were gone.
Now I am an airforce brat and therefore know a little about aircraft and their abilities. The speed and formation of the lights is beyond anything I have ever known. In short they were true UFO (Unidentified Flying Objects). Were they alien craft? I doubt it. I would far rather buy that its a new form of technology being tested in the dark skies over the city.

Honestly I find it amazingly arrogant for us as a race to think that out of the entire universe, we’re the only species capable of achieving space flight. It’s like a fish believing it’s the only creature alive because it just happens to be the only one in his pond.

That being said, these “sightings” are probably a load of bollocks. ;)

We found fossilised organisms on Mars rocks so why do people still not think there is life out there?
