A quick pre Mieliepop chat with The Oh So Serious
Over the last few years Pretoria based Folk Rock act, The Oh So Serious has established themselves as one of the best live acts in the SA Music scene and it’s a pity that they have not been receiving the attention they deserve from SA radio stations.
The Oh So Serious are definitely one of the MUST SEE acts at Mieliepop Festival 2016 (which is happening from 18 to 20 March at Tolderia Resort, 50 km from Ermelo in Mpumalanga). So, if you’re going, you should pack your dancing shoes (and feet), it’s going to be a goodie.
I recently had a chat to The Oh So Serious about Mieliepop and a few other things. This is what they had to say.
What comes to mind when you think of Mieliepop Festival?
Lots of Mielies in the year without Mielies. Caves, green grass, music journeys in the comfort of friends and senery.
What can music fans expect from your set at Mieliepop 2016?
One amazing musical tantrum.
What is currently playing on your iPod / CD Player / Music Streaming service that you use?
Van Morrison’s ‘Magic Time’, Pokey La Farge’s ‘ Something in the water’ and Bob Marley’s ‘Confrontation’.
What is the funniest thing that you’ve experienced whilst playing a set?
Our violin player playing for the wrong band on the last day of a festival!
Which quote / phrase would you use to describe the term “Hillbilly Music” ?
Something strangely talented about banjo players from middle America. Not relevant to South African bands as there are very few violin players and even less banjo players.
I’d like to thank The Oh So Serious for taking time to answer my questions. Make sure that you catch their set at Mieliepop 2016, you won’t be disappointed.
