AC/DC – Highway to Hell

30 years ago today, on the 19th of February 1980, the former lead singer of AC/DC Bon Scott was found dead in a car in outh London in the UK. The Scottish born Australian musician had been left there so he could sleep off the effects of excessive drinking the previous night. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced Dead on Arrival. The official cause of death was acute alcohol poisoning. 6 years before this Bon Scott had replaced David Evans as the lead singer of the Australian Rock band in September 1974. AC/DC considered splitting after Scott’s death but found a replacement lead singer. Brian Johnson joined AC/DC in April 1980 as the band’s new lead vocalist and has been there ever since. In tribute to Bon Scott I have decided to feature the title track from their 1979 album Highway to Hell on the blog today. The video features Bon Scott on lead vocals. Bon Scott was only 33 years old when he died. On 24 February 2008 a bronze statue of him was unveiled in Perth, Western Australia. The statue portrays Scott on top of a Marshall amplifier. It was installed at Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour in October 2008. In Late December 2008 there were reports on the web that a Bon Scott movie was in the works. AC/DC representatives confirmed this report on an official website.

This is a live video of AC/DCHighway to Hell on German television in 1979, followed by the lyrics:

Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don’t need reason, don’t need rhyme
Ain’t nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I’m on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody’s gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody’s gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payed my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I’m on my way to the promised land

I’m on the highway to hell
(Don’t stop me)

And I’m going down, all the way down
I’m on the highway to hell
