Great news for SA Music fans! UK Indie act Alt-J has been confirmed to play at Rocking the Daisies and Vodacom In the City in 2013! Tickets for both Rocking the Daisies and the inaugural Vodacom In the City event in Johannesburg (which featured Bloc Party as the international headliner) sold out last year. It seems that we might have a case of deja vu on our hands for this year’s events.
Alt-J (which has been called The UK’s hottest new indie act) will entertain fans at Vodacom in the City at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg on the 4th of October before making their way to Rocking the Daisies at Cloof Estate in Darling in the Western Cape the next day.
Alt-J have already performed at some of world’s top festivals like Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and Reading and it’s great news to hear that they’re making their way to South Africa for the first time. They were nominated at this year’s Brit Awards for Best British Group, Best British Album and British Breakthrough and also won the Mercury Prize for Best British Album of the last year.
They have been blowing audiences abroad away with their “An Awesome Wave” debut album (which was released in May 2012 in the UK and September 2012 in the USA). The members of Alt-J are Joe Newman, Gwil Sainsbury, Thom Green and Gus Unger-Hamilton. The band hail from Leeds and were formed in 2007. One of their songs was used in the 2012 Oscar nominated film Silver Linings Playbook.
I have to admit that I’m not familiar with Alt-J’s music at all, but like any avid music lover I’m always keen to discover and listen to new music. This is the music video for the song “Tessellate”
Tickets are selling like hotcakes already on Web Tickets, so buy them now. Don’t miss the chance to see Alt-J live in SA. For more info check out the In The City and Rocking The Daisies Facebook pages or follow @InTheCityJHB or @rockingthedaisy on Twitter. You can also check out the Rocking the Daisies and In The City websites. Spread the word about the Alt-J tour of South Africa. Share this article with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. Sharing is caring after all.
It seems that 2013 is not going to have a shortage of international acts visiting South Africa. Things can only get better from here on.
