On Saturday the 11th of February 2012 I made my way to Hatfield Square and its surrounding area in Pretoria to catch Hatfield Carnival (the Pretoria leg of the 2012 Campus Invasion tour). Unfortunately I missed Yesterday’s Pupil, The Newspapers and Frankie Fire in the afternoon, but I was just in time to catch AKA, JR, the KONGOS, Bittereinder, Die Heuwels Fantasties and Van Coke Kartel in the evening. One of the highlights of Hatfield Carnival this year were definitely Pretoria based Afrikaans Rap / Dance outfit Bittereinder. Peach van Pletzen, Louis Minnaar and Jaco van der Merwe (the members of Bittereinder) have been making waves in the SA Music industry since late 2010.

Their performance at Hatfield Carnival this year was an epic and memorable one (despite the fact that they did not play Tale of Three Cities and Slechte Mensen). They got the crowd of 9,000+ people in Hatfield Square going. I snapped this photo of Bittereinder while they were performing on the night and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 21st of February 2012.
