Great news for Geeks & Science Fiction fans! The first teaser trailer for Blade Runner 2049 (the upcoming 2017 sequel to 1982’s Blade Runner) has been released.
The film will feature Harrison Ford & Ryan Gosling as the two lead actors and will also feature performances by Robin Wright (Kevin Spacey’s wife in House of Cards), Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto (who needs no introduction thanks to his portrayal of the Joker in Suicide Squad).
Blade Runner 2049 is directed by Denis Villeneuve (who also directed 2016’s Arrival and 2015’s Sicario). The film takes place 30 years after the events in Blade Runner. A new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos.
K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) (a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years). The film is based on characters from Philip K Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (which was first published in 1968).
As a huge fan of films based on Philip K. Dick’s novels (Total Recall, Minority Report, Impostor, Paycheck, Next, etc) I really hope that Blade Runner 2049 is not a cock-up. Judging by the teaser trailer below I don’t think that will be the case though.
