Bloc Party Bloc Party Confirmed for Rocking the Daisies 2012!Great news for fans of Indie music in South Africa! Internationally acclaimed Indie rock legends Bloc Party have been confirmed to be international headliner at the 2012 edition of the Rocking the Daisies festival in the Western Cape! This universally respected band has already headlined some of the world’s most famous festivals and will be adding Rocking the Daisies to its very impressive list (which includes the O2 Academy, Leeds and Reading Festivals, T in the Park, Glastonbury and V Fest. South Africa now has the chance to be blown away by one of the best live acts in the world on Saturday the 6th of October 2012 at Rocking the Daisies. For those of you who did not know, the festival takes place at the Cloof Wine Estate near Darling in the Western Cape.

Just less than a year ago a big question markloomed over whether new music would ever emerge from Bloc Party. The band went on a hiatus in October 2009 to focus on side projects, and reunited in September 2011. In May 2012 the band announced via their website that their fourth album, Four would be released on the 20th of August 2012.

In February 2005 the band released their debut album Silent Alarm. It was critically acclaimed and was named ‘Indie Album of the Year’ at the 2006 PLUG Awards and NME Album of the year (which both honour indie music). That same year the record went platinum – Bloc Party sold two million albums worldwide. Bloc Party now return with their strongest, most vital statement to date in their triumphant new album Four.

FYI: Bloc Party’s members are Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong. The band reunited, prompted by a creative impetus inspired by a dramatic year in world events, as well as a shared desire to rekindle their singular musical kinship.

The new album presents a band in the fullest sense of the word: lean, hungry, spirited and uncompromising, armed with a collection of songs as powerful and anthemic as they’ve ever penned, as well as some of their most hard-hitting and visceral recordings to date! Rocking The Daisies fans will get to watch this all unfold on the main stage at the festival in 2012! To quote Kele Okereke “The record is the sound of four people in a room, loving what they do and doing it to the best of their ability. It is the sound that only the four of us could make, and I am prouder of it than any record we have ever made”.

I must admit I’m not that familiar with Bloc Party’s music. Only one single that I know of has been playlisted on Tuks FM in Pretoria before. It would be interesting to see them live though. It’s also great that more and more international acts are making their way down South. At the rate that internationals are being announced at the moment we could definitely expect more of them in 2012.

To give you an idea of their sound, check out this video in which they perform their hit single “The Prayer” at Rock Am Ring in Germany in 2009 below:
