On Saturday night I made my way to Arcade Empire in Equestria (in Pretoria East). Unfortunately I missed the performance by Laurie Levine, but I was able to catch performances by Kinky Robot, The December Streets and Bombay Show Pig.
Bombay Show Pig were the last act of the evening and they completely blew me away. In case you did not know, this band is comprised of 2 musos from The Hague and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I think I can describe their musical style as Jack White meets The Kills meets a hardcore version of The Breeders / The Pixies. Mathias Janmaat (on vocals, guitar and samples) and Linda van Leeuwen (on vocals, drums, samples and keys) play their hearts on stage and if you’ve haven’t heard them before their tunes will blow you away from the first second Mathias hits the first cord on his electric guitar, guaranteed.
I snapped this photo of Linda van Leeuwen playing her heart out on the drum kit on Saturday night at Arcade Empire and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 6th of August 2012.
If you’ve missed them on Saturday, don’t worry. You can catch them on Tuesday night at Brewers and Union in Cape Town for an acoustic set and they’re also playing at Oppikoppi 2012 Sweet Thing this coming weekend. Yesterday a photo featuring the Fireworks at London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony was the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant, feel free to check it out.
