Brace yourselves for The Lumineers in South Africa
Great news for fans of good music in South Africa! On the 23rd of July Seed Experiences announced that American folk-rock stars The Lumineers will make their South African debut this December when they will be performing at Cape Town’s iconic Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens on the 4th and 5th of December and at Johannesburg’s Emmarentia Dam for a daytime concert on the 6th of December.
The first Cape Town show has already sold out, which prompted the organizers to announce a second date. This promises to be one of the musical highlights of the year and is proudly sponsored by 5FM and Virgin Mobile.
The Lumineers became a success story in the USA with their 2011 self-titled debut album. The album gave the band international recognition, selling over 3-million copies and over 5,5-million single downloads of their debut single ‘Ho Hey’. The music video for ‘Ho Hey’ has already gained over 109-million YouTube views alone. Have a listen by clicking play on the video below…
The band was nominated for both “Best New Artist” and “Best Americana Album” at the 2013 Grammy Awards and has played to sold-out shows all over the world, as well as taking to the stage at major festivals like Glastonbury, Redding, Leeds, Lollapalooza, Big Day Out and others on the global music festival calendar.
Their music has been described as classic and genuine, raw and unique. They mix flavours of folk, alternative rock, Americana and indie, cutting them with a rustic charm. Their second single ‘Stubborn Love’ is a live favourite of the band’s and will be sure to get their South African fans singing along to the powerful chorus. Just check out their live performance of this song at SXSW in Austin, Texas in 2012.
Virgin Mobile believes strongly around creative expression through music and is thrilled to be partnered with Seed Experiences in bringing The Lumineers to our shores this December. Virgin Mobile strives to create unique and memorable experiences for their fans and they aim to do just that at the open air concerts in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
‘Ho Hey’, the chart-topping single that reached number one on the highly acclaimed 5FM Top 40 in South Africa. 5FM sees a natural fit with the Lumineers as their listeners are passionate not only about live music but also passionate about the Lumineers.
