The first Johannesburg edition of Synergy Live at Riversands farm was extremely successful last year. Great news for fans of awesome music is that Synergy Live will be returning to the City of Gold on Sunday the 1st of December 2013.
This year’s edition of this magnificent showcase will be held at the Crocodile Creek Polo Fields in Lanseria (the same venue for this year’s edition of Joburg Day) and will feature appearances by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (a rock band from the USA), Foreign Beggars (a hip-hop act from the UK) and Everything Everything (an alternative rock band from the UK).
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus play melodic hard rock that makes room for punk and power-pop influences. Frontman Ronnie Winter’s emotional vocals get the band classified as emo by some, but their brand of earnest, angsty rock is more closely aligned to that of groups like Hoobastank or Linkin Park. The band were formed in 2003 near Jacksonville, Florida and went through several incarnations before finalizing its lineup. Singer Ronnie Winter, guitarists Elias Reidy and Duke Kitchens, bassist Joey Westwood and drummer Jon Wilkes are the current members of the band. To date they have released 4 studio albums.
Foreign Beggars won the Best New Act award at the 2004 UK Hip Hop awards and were voted Best Group at the Lyric Pad Hip Hop awards in 2005. They were nominated for Best European Hip Hop Act at the 2010 Urban Music Awards alongside nominees Roots Manuva, Ken Ring, Professor Green, La Fouine and Tinie Tempah. In 2012 they were the opening act for
Deadmau5 at the iTunes festival.
Everything Everything were formed in late 2007. The band’s members are from Tynedale, Kent and Guernsey and they reside in Manchester. The band has received critical acclaim for their 2 albums ‘Man Alive’ & ‘Arc’ featuring their hit singles ‘Kemosabe’ & ‘Cough Cough’. ‘Arc’ was released on 14 January 2013 and made its debut at number 5 on the UK album chart.
Besides these excellent international acts the Johannesburg edition of Synergy Live 2013 will also feature performances by top local acts like Desmond and The Tutu’s, Gangs of Ballet, Goodnight Wembley, ISO, Naming James and Zebra & Giraffe on the main stage. There will also be DJ sets by MIZI, Das Kapital, David & Goliath, Half & Half, Musical Chairs vs Nubuck, PH Fat and Rude One on the Red Bull Studio Live stage and performances by BDMI, Behr, lucky Ntuli, Marcela, Reezo and more on the Mainstay Beach Bar stage. The event truly promises to be one of musical highlights on the Gauteng and SA Music festival calendar.
