I’m not a huge fan of electronic music, but sometimes I just have to admit that an electro act / DJ is really good at what they do. Skrillex is one of those DJs / electro acts. Skrillex (who’s real name is actually Sonny John Moore) has been making waves in the electro scene since 2002.
He was raised in Los Angeles and Northern California in the United States, joined the American post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004, and recorded two studio albums with the band. He started pursuing a solo career in 2007. He supported a few bands on Alternative Press tour before starting to produce music as Skrillex in 2009.
He released the My Name is Skrillex EP for free download on his official MySpace page in 2009, released the Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP in late 2010 and More Monsters and Sprites EP in mid 2011. Skrillex was nominated for a total of five Grammy Awards in late 2011 and won the Grammy Awards for Best Dance/Electronica Album, Best Dance Recording and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards earlier this year.
So far, 3 gigs have been confirmed for Skrillex in South Africa in 2013. He will be playing in Cape Town on the 28th of February 2013, Durban on the 1st of March 2013 and Johannesburg on the 2nd of March 2013. No venues have been confirmed for these gigs yet and it was announced that tickets will be available to buy on the 28th of January 2013. Skrillex joins Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi, Metallica and Justin Bieber on the list of international acts that will visit South Africa in 2013 that have been confirmed lately.
