Mobile Phones

Today I’m featuring a funny infographic featuring an iPhone vs Android vs Blackberry comparison. I think I’m pretty accurate, but that’s only my opinion. What do I really know about Smartphones?

I’m not a fan of the Apple iPhone. First of all I think it’s over priced. Secondly I think that Apple is being elitist with their constant release of Non Mini Usb connection ports and Thirdly I think it’s over rated. I also think that Apple copied a lot of the technology their using on their products, not the other way around (but that’s just my opinion). If I had to choose between these 3 smartphones, Apple would be my second choice though.

I’m currently using a Samsung Galaxy S3. I love this phone. It’s sleek. It’s fast. It does what it needs to do. And lastly it runs on Android. I’m thinking that Android will be the way of the future. The fact that more than 80% of the apps on the Google Play store are free is another plus for me.

Besides the Blackberry 10 (which is currently being rolled out globally) the only thing an older Blackberry phone is good for is being a paperweight. The only reason why South Africans have use Blackberry it’s because the cheapest smartphone on the market. Without BIS the Blackberry would just be paperweight with BBM (which is useless because EVERYONE uses Whatsapp nowadays) and a 3 to 4 hour battery life (if you’re lucky to get that much, pat yourself on the shoulder). BIS is going to be scaled down and I’m glad I’m not stuck with a paperweight.

The iPhone vs Android vs Blackberry Infographic below kinda sums it all up if you ask me.

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Apple iPhone 5

in Mobile Phones, Technology

I’ve never been a fan of the Apple iPhone. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy 3 smartphone and I’m damn happy with it. I am pretty excited about the Samsung Galaxy S4 that was announced by the Korean Electronics giant yesterday.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 5 inch screen, a 1.9 GHz Quad Core Processor, a 13 megapixel back camera and a 2 megapixel front camera. The phone also supports a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (with a 441 dpi pixel density) and 1080p HD video recording. It’s a bit thicker than the Apple Iphone 5, but the fact that it runs on Android makes it a better phone for me.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 uses its front-facing camera to detect if a user is looking away from the video they’re watching and automatically pauses playback. It also has Air View which allows users to scroll through pages with a wave of their hand and Floating Touch applies Samsung’s S-Pen tech to your fingers – it allows you to point and hover over an item to view it.

The phone’s Dual Shot function allows you to capture images from the front and rear cameras at the same time, the Eraser function captures multiple frames so that you can remove unwanted subjects, the Drama Shot function composites moving objects for action shots and the Sound & Shot feature captures five seconds of images and audio before the capture button is pressed. The Samsung Galaxy S4 also has a built-in infrared transmitter for controlling your TV and other devices in your entertainment center.

Check out this image below that compares the Samsung Galaxy S4 with the Apple iPhone 5

There you have it. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a better phone that the Apple iPhone 5. The phone goes on sale in April this year in the USA. I am still very curious to see what other inventions Samsung is going to introduce in 2013.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my smartphone, but new evidence is suggesting that it may be spying on me. To be honest, it creeps me out a little bit. Someone at OnlineColleges.com pointed out this out to me today. This infographic is entitled “Your Smartphone is Spying On You” and contains information about location based services.

The two most used location based service applications in South Africa are probably Foursquare and Facebook places if you ask me. According to OnlineColleges.com location-based services make life easy, but software on smartphones across the USA is tracking user actions. LBS Smartphone applications share user information with marketers to help their partners create targeted advertising. It’s not that huge in South Africa yet, but it might be in the near future. I will continue to use Foursquare to check into places that I am for now.

Despite the fact that “Your Smartphone is Spying on you” is kinda public now, it hasn’t stopped the advance of location-based services with smartphone owners in the USA. Location-based applications are especially useful for college students in the USA. They help students explore campuses and meet and make friends. LBS apps also build a marketplace where they can sell, buy or barter everything from bikes to tickets to tutoring. Pretty awesome if you ask me.
