The Christ the Redeemer statue was constructed between 1922 and 1931 on Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Heitor da Silva Costa (a local engineer) designed the statue and it was sculpted by French sculptor Paul Landowski. The statue weighs 635 tons, is 39.6 metres (130 ft) tall (including its 9.5 meter (31 feet) pedestal) and is 30 metres (98 ft) wide.
