Besides the Empire State Building New York City is also the home of the Chrysler Building. Construction on this 77 floor Art Deco skyscraper started in 1928. The building was completed in 1930. The Chrysler building was the world’s tallest building from 1930 – 1931. The Empire State building took away this honor from the Chrysler Building. The building stands 319 meters (1,047 feet) tall and its currently the 3rd tallest building in New York City. The Chrysler building was the headquarters of the Chrysler Corporation from 1930 until the mid 1950’s. The building was built and designed specifically for the car manufacturer, but the corporation didn’t pay for the construction and never owned it. Walter P. Chrysler for the construction himself so his children could inherit it.
