If you are a music fan you might have heard of the legendary The 100 Club in London, which has played host to some of the most influential artists on the planet since 24 October 1942. The good news for unsigned SA music talent is that Converse wants YOU to get out of the garage and to be transported to the UK to play a gig at this epic venue later this year. Whether you are a punk rocker, electro fundi, kickass proponent of kwaito or a hip hop playa, Converse wants to hear your sound!
You’re probably asking “Well, how do I enter?” now. Well, its easy. All you have to do is to upload your best original song and a short biography by visiting the Converse Facebook page. The judges (Zulu Boy, Jon Savage and Garick Williams) will then narrow down the entries to SA’s top 10 unsigned artists. Converse will then showcase these acts on Facebook, where South Africa can vote for their favourites and have the chance to join them VIP style for their gig.
Converse joined forces with The 100 Club in 2011, when it was threatened with closure due to rent increases and local taxes. Its future now secured, it continues to host some of the most interesting acts on the music scene, from big names to obscure up-and-comings, and now it will host SA’s finest unsigned talent.
