Converse Get Out Of The Garage is Back!
Great news for aspiring SA musicians! Converse Get Out Of The Garage is back for its third year in a row. This unique competition encourages artists from all across South Africa to upload their demos to Soundcloud or YouTube and then submit them to Converse via http://www.myssl.co.za/converse/.
For 2014 Converse is looking to get more unsigned musicians out of the garage and into a studio to record their own tracks right here in South Africa. From today (the 19th of May 2014) until the 15th of June 2014, you can upload your demo to SoundCloud or YouTube video at http://www.myssl.co.za/converse/.
Converse are mixing it up this year by bringing Rubber Tracks to the country to work with the Top 10 finalists. Rubber Tracks is a state-of-the-art recording studio that is located in Brooklyn, New York in the USA. Artists and bands of all genres and ages from around the world are encouraged to apply and upon acceptance, may reserve time in the studio to work alongside a team of experienced engineers. Through Rubber Tracks, Converse is giving back to the creative community that has embraced the brand throughout its 105 year history.
Converse Rubber Tracks provides a platform for artists to unleash their creative spirit that will change the world. This means that for the first time ever, the Top 10 will have a world-class single produced by experienced engineers, with the finest instruments and equipment.
So, if you’re a raging rocker, folk fundi, hip-hop hipster or any other musical muse, Converse wants to hear your sound. Judging will take place from the 17th and 19th of June. Returning judge and 5FM DJ, Catherine Grenfell will be joined this year by hip-hop legend, HHP. Owner of Openroom Productions, Darryl Torr, will also enter the mix, as one of SA’s most acclaimed producers.
In 2012, Matthew Mole was crowned the winner, and in 2013, the talented Jordi won the title of Converse Get Out Of The Garage. This is his story:
On June 23 the Top 10 finalists will be showcased on Facebook and Twitter, where South African music fans can vote for their favourite until 3rd of August. The winner will then be announced on 5th August, before heading off to New York City to record another track with Rubber Tracks, followed by more globetrotting t o perform LIVE in Europe.
And if melody making isn’t your best skill, but you still love supporting local artists, listen up! One fan will be rewarded with a trip to Europe to go watch the winning band perform live, so make sure you’re ready to vote on 23rd of June! It’s time to throw on your sneakers, get out of the garage, and share your musical talent here: http://www.myssl.co.za/converse/.
