Great news for Oppikoppi pilgrims and lovers of good Rock music in South Africa is that American garage rock / alternative rock band the Eagles of Death Metal have been confirmed for the Oppikoppi Sweet Thing line-up this year. Eagles of Death metal hail from Palm Desert, California. The band was formed in 1998 by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme (who are the only two members of the band). The live band consists of 4 extra members (who join the band during live performances).
Over the years Eagles of Death Metal have released 3 albums: Peace, Love, Death Metal (in 2004), Death by Sexy (in 2006) and Heart On (in 2008). The industry sees the band as a garage rock / alternative rock band, but in a 2003 interview Josh Homme described the sound of the band as a combination of “bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals.” According to Wikipedia, the members wondered what a cross between the Eagles and a death metal band would sound like in the early years of the band.
Eagles of Death Metal are the 2nd international act to be confirmed for Oppikoppi Sweet Thing. Bullet for my Valentine (from Wales in the UK) was confirmed as the first. To get your ticket to South Africa‘s premier music festival, head on over to the Standard Bank youth portal for your discounted R600 tickets.
