Great news for fans of rock and alternative in South Africa! This morning the organizers of Oppikoppi announced via Twitter and Facebook that UK based rock / hardcore band Enter Shikari will be performing at Oppikoppi Sweet Thing this year in August!
For those of you who did not know, Enter Shikari were formed in 2003 in St Albans, Hertfordshire in the UK. According to Wikipedia, the band combines post-hardcore and various heavy metal sub-genres such as metalcore and alternative metal with elements of various electronic genres such as electronica, dubstep, trance and occasionally drum and bass creating a particularly unique sound. The members of Enter Shikari are Rou Reynolds, Rory Clewlow, Chris Batten and Rob Rolfe. The band has released 3 studio albums: “Take to the Skies” (released in 2007), “Common Dreads” (released in 2009) and “A Flash Flood of Colour” (released in January 2012). The band has won a string of Kerrang! Awards since 2007. They’re apparently very good live (probably why they won the Kerrang! Award for Best Live Band earlier in 2012).
I must admit, I’m not particularly familiar with their music, but I’m pretty amped up to see them perform this year at Oppikoppi Sweet Thing. Enter Shikari joins Bullet for my Valentine (also from the UK) and the Eagles of Death Metal (from the USA) on the list of International acts performing at this year’s festival.
For those of you who don’t know what Enter Shikari sound like, this is the music video for their song “Sssnakepit”:
So, are you amped up to see Enter Shikari at Oppikoppi this year? Drop me a comment and let me know. Feedback is appreciated and welcome here.
