On Friday night @BaasDeBeer and I made our way to the #JagerDwerg Tweetup at Firkin in Centurion. Naas Veld (who was formerly a member of Afrikaans act Ef-El), Afrikaans music legends Klopjag and Die Tuindwergies (who recently launched their second studio album) played on the night. The 1,000+ strong crowd of punters at Firkin were all part of a Guinness World Record attempt. 1,013 shots of Jagermeister were handed out under the watchful eye of an auditor to all the patrons at the venue. Patrons were asked to down the shot they receive after a countdown that was led by @BaasDeBeer before Die Tuindwergies started their set.
I’ve never seen so much Jagermeister in one setting and I’ve never heard so many tot glasses hitting bar counters and tables at the same time. It was absolutely insane. Like I said in a previous post on this blog, 25 litres of Jagermeister gone in 1 second. Pretty Damn Impressive. Unfortunately we’ll only know in 2-3 weeks if the attempt is an official Guiness World Record. At least the #JagerDwerg hashtag trended in Pretoria region on Twitter on the night.
One of my Cape Townian Twitter buds and partner in crime (who is also a lover of good tunes, music journalist and blogger of note on http://texxandthecity.com) @texxonfire, made her way to Firkin on Friday night to join more than 25 Pretoria Tweeps for a proper TweetUp. And yes, @Vicky_JKWICZ (who is formerly a Stellenbosch resident and a MFM DJ, but is now residing in Johannesburg and who is the Ops Manager for http://samusicscene.co.za) was also there. And it turned out to be one of the best nights out that I’ve had in a while. I must say that I had a hangover of epic proportions the next day.
It has been said before and I’ll say it again: “Facebook is for people you went to school with and Twitter is for people you wish you went to school with”. I had the privilege of meeting both these ladies via Twitter in 2011 and this year. And they’re not the only 2 awesome people I’ve met since I started meeting folks from the popular social network in 2010. The majority of Twitter folk are just plain awesome if you ask me.
I snapped this photo of @texxonfire giving old @Vicky_JKWICZ one of the most legendary *licks* I’ve ever seen captured on film. I think this photo sums up the epicness of the evening and I think most of you reading this who were or weren’t there will agree with me. This photo has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 10th of July 2012.
Yesterday a photo featuring Klopjag on stage @ Firkin, Centurion (also taken on the evening) was the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant.
