Fasil Ghebbi

Fasil Ghebbi is a fortress-enclosure in the Gondar region of Ethiopia. The fortress served as the home of Ethiopia’s emperors in the 17th and 18th centuries. The structure’s unique architecture shows diverse influences including Nubian, Arab, and Baroque styles. Fasil Ghebbi was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The fortress covers an area of about 70,000 square meters. This photo of Fasil Ghebbi was selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 28th of July 2011.
