Fireworks at London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony
On the 27th of July the 2012 Olympic Games in London were declared open by Queen Elizabeth II. It’s the 30th time in history that the modern Olympic Games are held.
So far, South Africa has won 3 gold medals (2 in swimming, 1 in rowing) and 1 silver medal (in swimming). Our Olympic team have improved their performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China. We only managed to bring 1 gold medal home on that occasion. The London 2012 Olympics end on the 12th of August. Let’s hope the South African team can bring more medals home.
This photo was taken at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics on the 27th of July. It’s an extra-ordinary shot showing off the fireworks over the Olympic stadium. This photo was taken by Ryan Pierse and was featured on the Boston Big Picture website. This photo has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 5th of August 2012.
