First batch of local artists announced for Oppikoppi 2016
Oppikoppi 2016 is less than 4 months away and excitement is building up for one of the music festival highlights of the year. A few weeks ago American metalcore act, August Burns Red was announced as one of the headliners, but a ton of local acts have also been announced for the festival over the last weeks.
Here’s a list of local acts that have been announced so far:
Fokofpolisiekar (returning to Oppikoppi for the first time since 2014), Sannie Fox (a lady from the Cape that knows how to rock), The Sextons, Jack Rolling Dandy’s (a 2 man band that I want to see again after experiencing them at the Running Wolf’s Rant birthday party earlier this year), The Tazers (a rock and roll band that blew me away at Mieliepop Festival this year), Caroline Liesegang, Urban Village, Bombshelter Beast, Easy Freak, Thieve (who recently released a critically acclaimed album), Jonathan Peyper (a Blues maestro that will make love to your eardrums), New Academics (who recently released an amazing new studio album), Man As Machine (a rocking Joburg band that will most definitely rock your socks off), Chambers, Boxer, Bongeziwe Mabandla, DMDC, The Fishwives, De Wallen (a Cape Town rock band that has been making waves in the SA Music scene in the last year), Bittereinder (who will be bringing the “Bons” to the Bushveld once again), Art Snakes (a Pretoria band that should not be missed), Go Barefoot, Hellcats (one of the best Blues / Rock acts in SA), Late Night Fox, Sol Gems, Ricky Rick, Tidal Waves, Bye Beneco, Newtown Knife Gang, The Narrow (One of SA’s top Hard Rock acts), Georgetown, Sutherland, Josh Kempen, The Moths (Surf rock gods that have been making waves recently) and Grassy Spark (Cape Town Ska gods that will have you dancing in no time).
I’m pretty damn excited for this year’s festival and I just a feeling that this is going to be one for the books. I can’t wait to find out who the rest of the acts will be who are making their way to Oppikoppi 2016. I’m already dusting off my festival shoes for this one (to be dead honest).
Excited? General Admission tickets cost R850. Get yours now! Otherwise you’ll be paying R950 for a late ticket (which will cost R950) and do take note that NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE FESTIVAL GATE.
Take note: Oppikoppi: For the lovely young taken to THE UNSEA is brought to you by Windhoek, Red Bull, Jose Cuervo, Chevrolet, MTV, Limpopo Tourism, the Department of Arts & Culture and Hilltop Live and will take place from the 5th to the 7th of August this year.
