Foo Fighters to tour South Africa in December 2014
The epic moment that many South African rock fans have been waiting for finally arrived today: Big Concerts confirmed that Foo Fighters will be playing two shows in our country in late 2014. Foo Fighters will be playing at Cape Town Stadium in the Mother City on the 10th of December and at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on the 13th of December.
UK rockers Kaiser Chiefs and local act BLK JKS will be supporting them on this tour and tickets will go on sale at 9 AM on Thursday (the 26th of June 2014) at Computicket and ticket pricing ranges as follows:
- For Cape Town: Golden Circle / Lower Seated R960, General Standing R850, Other Seated R565-R395.
- For Jhb: Golden Circle R1085, Lower Seated R970-870, Middle Seated R915, General Standing R745, Other Seated R575-R350.
To be honest, I’m completely over the moon about the Foo Fighters announcement. I can’t believe that one of the bands on my bucket list for live performances are FINALLY coming to South Africa. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about a band announcement in my entire life. The 18 year old rock fan inside of me just went ape-shit when I heard about this!
I’ve been listening to Foo Fighters ever since their debut album was released back in 1995 and their music has carried me through some tough times over the years. I can’t wait to sing along to ALL of their songs and to see what two of Nirvana’s ex members, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear (who was their touring guitarist) have in store for rock fans.
Mark my words, it’s going to be awesome. If you don’t believe me, check out this live version of “Best of You” (which was recorded at Wembley in the UK in 2008):
Tickets are quite expensive, but I think that it will be worth every cent. Foo Fighters have gained a reputation as one of the hardest working bands in the world and I’ve only heard and seen good things when it comes to their live performances, so I doubt that we’ll be disappointed.
I’m pretty amped to see Kaiser Chiefs as well (because I missed the first time they were in South Africa) but I don’t think BLK JKS are the right musical fit as the local opening act for Foo Fighters. I would’ve expected someone like Fokofpolisiekar or Van Coke Kartel, but I suppose the organizers can’t keep everyone happy.
