Up the Creek 2012 is around the corner. Musical pilgrims from all over will be making the journey to the banks of the Breede River (near Swellendam) in the Western Cape to experience musical epic-ness of grand proportions from the 3rd to the 5th of February.
Today, the line-up schedule was released by the Up the Creek Organizers. If you haven’t realized that this line-up is awesome yet – you are probably not a lover of SA Music. With bands like the KONGOS, aKING, Wrestlerish, Black Cat Bones, Shadowclub and Southern Gypsey Queen on the bill – things could just get awesome this year at Up The Creek.
There will be 3 stages at the Event, The BOS Ice Tea Stage, the MK River Stage (which I’m definitely looking forward to experience) and the Bacardi Main Stage. Gates to the festival open at 4 PM on Thursday the 2nd of Feb for the first 400 music lovers.
- The festival kicks off on Thursday night at 8 PM with a special early show featuring at The December Streets, Piet Botha, Dan Patlansky and Akkedis.
- On Friday the main program of the festival kicks off at 8 PM with Jeremy Loops followed by Die Blues Broers & Albert Frost, Machineri, aKING and Taxi Violence. At 12:30 AM Southern Gypsey Queen will make their appearance on the BOS Ice Tea stage, followed by the Great Apes.
- On Saturday morning Luna Paige & Schalk Joubert will start the day’s proceedings at the BOS Ice Tea stage. At 12 Noon the MK River Stage will feature The Cameron Bruce Band followed by Louwtjie Rothman, Peachy Keen and Sterling EQ. At 6 PM Fox Comet will open the evening’s proceedings on the Bacardi Main Stage. They will be followed by The City Bowl Mizers, Shadowclub, No One’s Arc, Karen Zoid, American based band the KONGOS and Hot Water. At 1 AM on Saturday morning the SA/DC Tribute Band (An AC/DC tribute band) will play a set, followed by the Black Cat Bones at the BOS Ice Tea stage.
- On Sunday morning Andra will open the day’s proceedings at a breakfast stage. The MK River stage will then feature comedian Siv Ngesi at 10 AM. He will be followed by Holiday Murray, Wrestlerish and Piet Both & Friends (who will end the weekend’s line-up).
It looks like Up The Creek is going to be an epic weekend packed with music by some excellent musicians and an awesome vibe.

Up The Creek 2012 is sponsored by Bacardi, Converse, MK, and BOS Ice Tea. I have not been to an Up The Creek Festival yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. The good news is that I’ll be making my way there for the first time this year – and I’m truly amped about it.
