Great news! Fox has given official word that a prequel series entitled Gotham is in the works. The series was produced by Bruno Heller (who also brought us Rome and The Mentalist) and is said to air on US Television before the end of 2014.
Gotham will feature a young James Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne and Jada Pinkett-Smith as a no-nonsense infamous nightclub owner with connections to the underworld and transpires during a time before The Dark Night transformation. Some of your villains like Catwoman, The Penguin, Two Face, Poison Ivy and Joker will also be featured in this exciting new series that promises to be an instant hit with TV audiences. Besides Smith the series will feature appearances by Ben McKenzie, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Zabryna Guevara, Erin Richards, Donal Logue, David Mazouz and Camren Bicondova.
If you ask me, it’s about time that the DC Universe has a response to Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (which started in late 2013). I’ve never been one of those geeks saying things like “Marvel is better than DC” or “Batman is cooler than Iron Man”, but I’m pretty sure that this show is going to be awesome. I don’t care if it’s a Marvel or DC show, I’m just glad there’s more decent shows coming to television and that there’s one more time slot filled up and showing the middle finger to a reality show.
