Great Goals: Didier Drogba (2007)
Didier Drogba was born in 1978 in Abijan in the Ivory Coast (also known as Cote D’Ivoire). He plays his club soccer for Chelsea FC in England. He’s so far played in 145 matches for the English Club and has scored 81 goals for the team. Before moving to Chelsea in 2004 he played for Marseilles, Guingamp and Le Mans in France. He plays his international football for the Ivory Coast. He will be one of the stars to look out for in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa (which kicks off on the 11th of June in Johannesburg). This goal by Drogba against Manchester United in the 2007 FA Cup final at the newly completed Wembley Stadium in London has been selected for the Great Goals section of the Sport category on Running Wolf’s Rant. This goal ensured Chelsea’s victory in the match and was scored in the 116th minute (in extra time). Over 89,000 attended this match. It was the 4th time in English football history that Chelsea won the FA Cup (they also achieved FA Cup victory in 1970, 1997 and 2000).
