Great Tries: Gerrie Germishuys (1981)

In 1981 the Springboks toured New Zealand, despite heavy protests against the South African government’s Apartheid policies. The Springboks only managed to win 1 test whilst on tour. Gerrie Germishuys was a member of the Springbok team between 1974 and 1981. He played in 20 rugby test matches for South Africa and scored 12 tries in his international test career. This try was scored in one of the 1981 test matches against the New Zealand All Blacks. I vaguely remember this tour (I was only 4 years old at the time). Gerrie Germishuys was considered as one of the best wings of his generation. This try has been selected as one of the Great Tries in the Sport category of Running Wolf’s Rant.
