Grímsvötn Volcano

Grímsvötn volcano is located in Iceland and caused a disruption in Air Travel In Europe from 22 May to 25 May 2011 (when it erupted on the 21st of May 2011). A cloud of smoke and ash could be seen over the volcano. The cloud reached an altitude of 11 kilometres (6.8 miles) according to the Icelandic Meteorological Institute. This photo photo featuring the ash cloud that Grímsvötn that caused was published on the Boston Big Picture website last year and it has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 4th of April 2012.
