Help Rebuild Klein Libertas Theatre

The Klein Libertas Theatre, a historic part of South Africa’s music and performing arts culture, was gutted by an electrical fire almost a year ago in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.  No attempts have been made to rebuild it, but that might change in the near future.

South African born music journalist and Team Rock Radio DJ Gary Cool (who lives in the UK nowadays) invited controversial parody band, Satanic Dagga Orgy to play a 5 track session on his show on the radio station. They spoke about how the band has been around for 3 years and that they have played festivals and venues all around Joburg without a problem but they still have not managed to book a gig in Cape Town because of their name.

The Klein Libertas Theatre was brougt up in the conversation, so Gary Cool came up with a plan to raise money for to rebuild / renovate the venue. To kick-start this campaign Satanic Daggy Orgy created an Idiegogo campaign where you can donate money towards this cause. They propose to host a free concert at the new venue featuring a host of South Africa’s best bands should the target be reached.

Satanic Dagga Orgy have a controversial name, but they don’t engage in dodgy occultic behaviour at their shows. In fact, they actually played a whole show at Oppikoppi last year in their red speedos. That’s Baywatch if you ask me, not a dodgy occultic ritual.

If you live in Cape Town or Stellenbosch and you love going to live music shows or if you have an undying love for SA Music I propose that you donate moolah towards this cause. Times are tough, but donating a minimum of $2 (roughly R30) won’t exactly make a huge dent in your pocket.

Think about it this way: R30 is one pack of cheap smokes that you won’t be smoking for the month (so your lungs won’t get more fucked up), it’s two beers for the month at your local (so your hangover won’t be so bad the next day) – so it’s not really a train smash and you don’t have a reason NOT to support this campaign.

So before you start bitching there being a lack of venues in the Western Cape or you start looking for excuses, “Don’t Be Kak, Be Lekker” and click here to make your donation NOW!

Make a difference if you love SA Music and if you’re not convinced, listen to Satanic Dagga Orgy’s song below, it contains some useful advice for those of you who are hesitant to make donations.
