Hillbrow Tower

The Hillbrow Tower (previously known as the J.G. Strijdom tower) is 269 metres (882 feet) tall. It was built between 1968 and 1971. The Hillbrow Tower has been closed for visitors since 1981 for security reasons. Before the closure the tower was 1 of the biggest tourist attractions in Johannesburg. At the top of the tower (above 131 metres) there were 6 public floors. One of them housed a revolving restaurant named Heinrich’s Restaurant and there was another non-rotating restaurant known as the Grill Room. This photo featuring the Hillbrow tower has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 4th of April 2010.
