“I smoke things, I drink things, I read things, I write things” was the sentence that blogger and music journalist @texxonfire (Tecla Ciolfi) used to describe herself in every bio for as long as she’s been a social networker. Very recently however, she’s changed her Twitter bio to read, “Likely to drape myself over a piano after a few drinks,” quoting a friend of hers who was adamant that this was a tagline more suited to her frivolous nature.
As the creator and curator of Texx and the City, Tecla’s music blog has grown in popularity since its revamp at the beginning of 2011. Dedicated to unearthing and showcasing the best musical talent that Cape Town (as well as the rest of the country) has on offer, Tecla brandishes her own special brand of tongue-in-cheek humour to educate those that are not as musically savvy.
I had the privilege of meeting this wonderful example of a human party animal at RAMFest Cape Town this year. I do think that we should co-ordinate our drinking habits better next time though.
I recently asked @texxonfire a few questions, this is what she had to say:
What do you do when you’re not blogging or Tweeting?
I feel it’s important to mention that I’m Italian here because, as a nation, we’re always doing shit with our hands. So when my hands aren’t glued to a keyboard, they’re usually helping me down drinks, or edit a free monthly music magazine called YOUR LMG (Live Music Guide). I also do other stuff with my hands, but uuuh, ja…
What is the funniest thing that you’ve experienced on Twitter?
I once wrote a review where I brutally slated some random rock band. Turns out the drummer was one of my avid followers on Twitter and I had no idea. So unknowingly, I basically tweeted how crap he was to his metaphorical face about a dozen times.
Who would you say are the people that you interact with on Twitter the most and why?
I tend to very rarely answer my phone, so the people I interact with the most are actually my close friends because they know it’s the most efficient way to get hold of me.
Would you call yourself a Twitter addict?
Yes. But then again, there are worse things you could be addicted too – like the new Heuwels album.
Has Social Media changed your life?
Well let me put it this way, Twitter’s gotten me into moerse trouble, gotten me laid, helped me explain how I ended up with stitches in my ass the day my thesis was due and crowned me a Twitter Queen in flashy magazine spread. But most importantly, it’s through Twitter that I made a life-changing friendship. You do the math.
