Jacaranda Trees in Pretoria

I’ve been a resident of the capital city of South Africa for the past 14 years. Pretoria has truly grown on me. Every year the Jacaranda trees bloom for the first 3 weeks in October, covering the city in a blanket of purple flowers. Its one of my favorite times of the year. There’s nothing like exploring the city on foot and feeling a Jacaranda flower falling on your shoulder. Legend has it that you will have good luck if a Jacaranda flower falls on you. This photo of the Jacaranda trees in full bloom in Pretoria Central has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 7th of December 2010.
