Jakarta is the capital and largest city of Indonesia (in South East Asia). The city is located on the North West coast of Java and has an urban population of 9 million people. More than 24 million people live in the Jakarta metropolitan area. The city was established in 397 AD. The city was formerly known as Sunda Kelapa (from 397–1527), Jayakarta (from 1527–1619), Batavia (from 1619–1942), and Djakarta (from 1942–1972).
