Mieliepop Songtuary 2012 Mieliepop Songtuary 2012 Coming in October! So you are asking yourself “What is Mieliepop Songtuary 2012?” Well, it’s one of the most awesome experiences near Lothair (about 60 km from Ermelo) in Mpumalanga. Brace yourself for one of the most laid back festivals featuring some epic rock, reggae and blues tunes! In case you were wondering, Mieliepop Songtuary 2012 takes place from 26 to 28 October!

Mieliepop was first held last year and this year this organizers are making it a little bit bigger. They are adding a second stage right next to the main stage. The main stage will have all the bands you want. The second will host just plain amazing new acts that you should see.

The cave disco will give you a variety of vastrap DJ’s, electro swing, Balkan beats, electro, eclectic mix and some nostalgic tunes. Make sure you pack your dancing slops and before you ask: Yes, it’s a real cave.

The Mieliepop Songtuary 2012 camp site is situated around a lake. If you want a waterfront possie you’ll have to get there early. It works on a first come, first serve basis. And yes, there are lush lawns all over the venue. If you step in a thorn, consider yourself lucky, because there aren’t any.

There will ample ablution facilities scattered all over. You will also love the fact that the showers have hot water and you will even be more impressed to see that the toilets are clean (and they all flush like the ones you have at home). Ladies and Gentle-Guys can also expect a hairdryer plus and some vanity goodies at the shower area. The organizers want you to look sexy even when you’re going to pass out in the wrong tent. There will be 5 bars at Mieliepop Songtuary 2012. The drinks will be very reasonably priced so that festival goers won’t feel ripped off. Own booze is not allowed at the main stage (on request from the sponsors). It will not be fenced off because face it, fencing looks stupid. You’re kindly requested to gently moer that guy who tries to walk in with his cooler. There are plenty flavors of food that you can choose from. The stalls will all supply healthy yet yummy grub (at a reasonable price of course). There will be a selection varying from meaty, veggie, hot, cold, weird, messy and never seen before. And yes, you are allowed to play with your food.

Mieliepop Songtuary 2012 will have its own Pop shop where you will find uber cool Mieliepop stuff to buy. These items are designed to make your friends jealous back home. The performing artists will also sell their goodies here. Please support them if you dig their vibe. Getting items signed in person is your baby. Wood and ice will also be sold here.

There will also be a massage tent and you can expect authentic Thai ladies to rub you up the right way.  And yes, there will be an ATM on site (so you don’t run out of cash). Also note that the festival area has no cell phone reception, but if you take a 250 meter hike up the hill you will be sorted.

Motorbikes are allowed only if you arrive with them and park it until you leave. If you are skeeming to even start it and keep our medics busy, consider yourself voted out of Mieliepop. It is for your own and the public’s safety. All motorcycle drivers will be required to sign a form at the gate to confirm that they know the rules. The organizers want the bikers there but we have to stipulate this clearly.

Imagine yourself on a lilo on a lake. Imagine crystal clear water, the sun kissing your skin and green pastures all around  you. You think “I am having a moment” as you stare at all the people around. It’s that moment you always want to treasure and remember. That moment gives you hope to make sense of this crazy world. Smiling and happy people. Even just for just as few days.

If you don’t like to party with an abundance of luxuries then stay away. We will over cater for all your needs to make sure that easy does it for you. Please do bring floating devices. Anything is allowed as long as it has no engine.  In case you need more information and ticket purchasing options visit the Mieliepop Website.  Check out the ticket referral system prize. It involves you plus three best mates to fly directly into Mieliepop with a real airplane (not a magic carpet). There are also some really groovy extras that you will receive if you win. So, make sure you go check it out. You can also check out the Facebook Event Page for more information or follow @mieliepopfest on Twitter for updates.

The line-up for the festival will include the following artists:

  • Phoenix Smith (from Johannesburg), Mechanics of Happiness (from Pretoria), DADA FM (from Cape Town), BCUC (from Johannesburg), Tenkai Pennies (from Pretoria) and Them Particles (from Johannesburg) on Friday
  • Naming James (from Johannesburg), The Country Conquerors (from Greyton), The Howlin’ Shibanski (from Pretoria), Greg Georgiades Big Band and Then Some (from Everywhere apparently), Chiba Fly (from Pretoria), Jeremy Loops (from Cape Town), Shotgun Tori (from Johannesburg), Dan Patlansky (from Planet Dan), Tidal Waves (from Utopia), Feed The Wolf (from Pretoria), Uriah Heep (from the UK), Hot Water (from Durban), the Smoking Mojos (from The United States of Rizla) and Napalma (from Brazil / Mozambique) on Saturday.
  • Riku Latti Ensemble (featuring Bacchus Nel, Lochner de Kock, Rian Malan, Lanimybru and special guest appearances by other surprise artists) on Sunday. In case you were wondering: Riku is designing this show especially for Mieliepop.

Because Mieliepop Songtuary 2012 has limit on ticket sales the organizers have decided to put the main stage and second stage next to each other. There is no reason to split the party. This means you can claim your spot and not move at all. A fresh beer and a pee break will be the only reason you will have to engage in exercise. The “filler” bands will be announced soon and you’ll be able to glance at them at a 90 degree angle to your right on a separate stage.

This sounds pretty awesome if you ask me. I was at the first Mieliepop festival last year and it was an absolutely blast! Don’t miss out on this one, you simply can’t. The festival gods will be extremely mad at you.
