2015 was an interesting year in music. This year saw the release of some amazing albums. It made me realize that there’s still good music out there and that you just have to listen. I also realized that music has become really diverse and that there’s tons of genres out there that I didn’t even know existed.
On the local front Francois Van Coke rocked South Africa with his debut solo album. Francois and Karen Zoid conquered the airwaves and the interwebs and blew the audience at Oppikoppi 2015 away with “Toe Vind Ek Jou”. 2015 also saw new releases from Jack Parow, Bittereinder, Shortstraw, Desmond & The Tutu’s, Zebra & Giraffe and others. Hellcats and Southern Wild also burst onto the scene – I think that we can safely say that SA Music is definitely alive and well.
This year also saw new albums from Florence & The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Eagles of Death Metal, Alabama Shakes, Muse, Disturbed, Blur, Iron Maiden, Bring Me the Horizon, Bullet for My Valentine, Frank Turner, Foals, The Wombats and various other amazing artists. Things can only get better from here on if you ask me.
I compiled a list of my top 30 songs for 2015 on Deezer:
Sadly I could not add any of Francois tracks on the list, but they really should be here as well. Have a listen below:
