A while ago, the first batch of artists were announced for Oppikoppi 2015 The Fantastic Mr. Vos Vos. Since then the organizers have been announcing more acts for the festival which will be happening on the farm outside Northam on the 7th, 8th and 9th of August 2015 on the Oppikoppi Facebook page.

Oppikoppi-2015

There are tons of acts in the list that I could single out, but I’m going to with the last three I mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Some of you might be pulling up your noses or pulling faces, but yes folks, Tweak will be re-uniting for a show at Oppikoppi 2015 so prepare to embrace your inner early 2000’s punk. The last time I watched these okes perform was in 2005 and they were a very influential act in the SA Music scene in the first half of the previous decade so I’m really looking forward to their set.

“Die Liedjieboer” himself, Anton Goosen will also be returning to Oppikoppi. I think the last I saw him live was in 2002 and I’m thinking that classic tunes like “Boy from die Suburbs” will have the dusty faithful busting a move like most of them first did when they were in Kindergarden.

Johnny Clegg is this year’s Oppikoppi tribute artist, following in the footsteps of Ollie Viljoen, Valiant Swart, Hugh Masekela, David Kramer, Koos Kombuis and Sipho Hostix Mabuse and I have to say that those who have not seen this Impi live are in for a real treat. I’ve only seen him live once and I was completely blown away, so brace yourself for an excellent performance folks.

Twin Atlantic was announced as the first international headliner for this year’s festival. This Alternative / Rock / Powerpop act hail from Glasgow, Scotland and have played Reading and Leeds festival in the UK for 5 years in a row. I’m not familiar with their music, but I’m curious to see how their set will go down at this year’s festival.

To recap, these artists have also been announced for this years festival: Hyphen, Okmalumkoolkat, Guy Collins, The Foolish Braves, After Robot, Satanic Dagga Orgy, Card on Spokes, Francois van Coke, Shortstraw, P.H. Fat, BCUC, New Academics, The Bearded Ladies, Southern Wild, Meth Breath, Crystal Park, FILTH, Bark, Steadyrock-Nation, Rude One, Livingston (UK), The Ts & Cs, Red Helen, Hokum, Trancemicsoul, The Black Cat Bones, a colab featuring Albert Frost, Toya Delazy and Lee Thomson (from Hog Hoggidy Hog) and The Parlotones.

I’m excited to see who Oppikoppi 2015 will be announcing in the coming weeks. I think this year’s festival is going to be awesome and the organizers definitely have something up their sleeves. Tickets are available on the Oppikoppi Facebook Page or Plankton.Mobi.
