Before last weekend the Kimberley Diamond Cup (presented by Kumba Iron Ore) promised non-stop high octane skateboarding action for the whole weekend. Spectators were told that to expect never-seen-before tricks as the best pro skaters in the world went head-to-head for the world champion title and a total prize purse of a whopping R5 million. Well, they definitely got their money’s worth last weekend. The event showcased some of the best skateboarding in the world.
Nyjah Huston (who is currently considered to be the best street skater in the world) wowed the crowds at the Kimberley Diamond Cup over the weekend by executing an unbelievable backside 270 kickflip to backside lipslide down the large rail at the Kumba Skate Plaza in Kimberley during a practice session. Check it out below: it’s pretty damn cool. Nyjah Huston walked away with R1 million prize money for this. Maybe I should consider taking skateboarding up as a hobby.
See, I told you that it was pretty damn cool. In the amateur vert competition Dallas Oberholzer from KwaZulu-Natal walked away with the R10 000 first prize. The amateur ladies contest provided lots of excitement with Kelly Murray from Johannesburg pulling off some great tricks to impress the judges with Melissa Williams from Cape Town second and Natalie Bramley in third place.
