Great news music fans! Early this morning, the organisers of Oppikoppi 2017 announced the line-up for their festival which will be happening from the 5th to the 8th of October. The line-up includes 3 international acts: Flume (an Australian record producer, musician and DJ), Two Door Cinema Club (an Irish Indie Rock band from Bangor / Donaghadee in County Down, Northern Ireland) & The Naked and Famous (an Indie / Electronic band from Auckland, New Zealand). It’s the second time that Two Door Cinema Club and the first time that The Naked and Famous will be making their way to South Africa.

The reaction to the Oppikoppi 2017 line-up has been mixed, but generally positive on social media. The ones that are the most unhappy are the metal fans (who feel that their genre is not being covered like it has been in previous editions of the festival). Some rock fans are also not happy, but they don’t really have a reason to complain because there are PLENTY of top SA rock acts on the line-up like The Tazers, Hellcats, Boxer, Fuzigish, We Are Charlie, The Black Cat Bones and others.

I have to admit that the line-up was what I expected, so I’m bummed that we don’t have an international headliner like Cage The Elephant, Royal Blood or Queens of the Stone Age but I’m happy that the local line-up makes up for it. It has always been about local music for me when it comes to Oppikoppi.
