Oscar Pistorius at the London 2012 Olympic Games
For those of you who did not know, Oscar Pistorius was born in 1986 in Sandton, Johannesburg. This 25 year old was born with fibular hemimelia (congenital absence of the fibula) in both his legs. When he was 11 months old both his legs were amputated halfway between his knees and ankles.
Nowadays Oscar Pistorius competes in T44 (single below knee amputees) events though he is actually classified in T43 (double below knee amputee). He is the T44 world record holder for the 400 metres and was previously the world record holder in the 100 and 200 metres events as well. He has said that his sporting motto is “You’re not disabled by the disabilities you have, you are able by the abilities you have.”
Oscar Pistorius is also known as “Blade Runner”, “the fastest man on no legs” and ‘Oz’ Pistorius. He is a true inspiration if you ask me. He competed in the London 2012 Olympic games and is currently also competing in the 2012 London Paralympics. This photo featuring Oscar Pistorius competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 7th of September 2012.
