Perth Skyline

Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia and the 4th most populous city in Australia. The Perth metropolitan area has an estimated population of 1,6 million people. Perth was established in 1829. Perth became known worldwide as the “City of Light” when city residents lit their house lights and streetlights as American astronaut John Glenn passed overhead while orbiting the earth on Friendship 7 in 1962. Perth is one of the most isolated metropolitan areas on earth. The nearest city to Perth with a population over 1 million is Adelaide in South Australia, which is 2,104 kilometres away. The city is actually closer to Dili in East Timor, Singapore and Jakarta in Indonesia than it is to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in Australia. This photo of the Perth Skyline has been selected as the Daily Cool Photo on Running Wolf’s Rant for the 13th of October 2010.
