Pretoria based Hillbilly / Bluegrass / Folk / Country / Blues act Georgetown are on the line-up for this weekend’s edition of Park Acoustics. There will also be performances by Bacchus Nel, aKING and Klopjag.

I spoke to the blokes from Georgetown about Park Acoustics and a few other things. This is what they had to say:

Georgetown” has a nice ring to it. Where does your band name come from?

We were all traveling South-East Asia together in 2014 and ended up in Georgetown in Malaysia where we did our first unofficial gig together in a local bar and hence decided to call the band Georgetown.

GeorgeTown A quick chat with Georgetown

What are your thoughts on the current state of SA Music?

It is a fucking dog show.

What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you during a live set?

We were playing a wedding and just after the main dance when close friends got to join the bride’s family on the dancefloor one of the guests accidentally dropped a full bag of cocaine and it literally spilled across the whole floor shimmering like some sort of special effect. There was a slight WTF moment but then everyone proceeded to dance on top of the coke 🙂

What is your favorite quote about music?

“Don’t fake it till you make it, be genuine and play with integrity” – Tiaan Erasmus.

What can music lovers expect from your set at Park Acoustics?

Our seasoned fans will appreciate some new material 🙂 We also have a surprise in store in the form of a collaboration with a fantastic local musician Peter Hoven.

I’d like to thank Georgetown for this interview and I wish them all of the best with their set at Park Acoustics this coming weekend.
